    Skeeter Trailer Bearing Grease

Hi all, I have a 97 Skeeter trailer for a ZX190c. I am looking to grease the bearings. I can not find the nipple for the grease gun. I am used to a rubber bearing buddy that prys off with a screwdriver. I was unable to get the cap off that way. I also tried screwing it off (incase it was threaded). That did not work either. I was considering taking a screwdriver and using a hammer to try and get under the lip, but wanted some adivse first.

Does anybody know how to access the grease nipple?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Walt

do they have soft rubber covers in the middle. If so the nipple is behind them. I had a 98 trailer that was this way.

It should have either a metal cover or a rubber cover over the nipple. You don't need the hammer but you can use a small flat screwdriver to get under it and pry it off to expose the nipple.

Re: Skeeter Trailer Bearing Grease (Bass Junkie)

    Hi,

Sorry for my ignorance, I feel like this is such a basic question, but it is frustrating.

There is no rubber cap. I tried to use a screwdriver on the metal cap, but that did not work. I tried a few different size flatheads...

I tried to loosed the metal cap with a rubber mallet, then use the screwdriver. That did not work either.

Thanks again everyone for you help!

If you could post a picture of the wheel maybe we could help some more. Something just doesn't seem right, it should not be that difficult. Maybe the prior owner made some kind of modification?

Walt, these are, what I call, old type dust covers...You have to drive them off..Get a short piece of 2x4 and a hammer...Tap on one side a few licks, then tap on the other. After doing this you will see the dust cover starting to come off..I hope this helps..Don't be shy about giving them some hard licks...

That looks like a generic cap. Does it have a lip next to the hub? If so take a cold chisel inbetween hub and lip and drive it off. will have to work from side to side until it comes out. I would replace with a bearing buddy - most marine dealers or parts supply sell them. Looks like someone lost the cap and put a generic cap on and never replaced.
