    2007 SX180 with 115 4-stroke

Well, I bought a boat Saturday! I was looking at the G3 Eagle 190 and came across a Skeeter dealer. I went over and looked at the 2007 SX180. It was a much better value for the money than the tin boat. I'm picking it up Wednesday or Thursday. I actually fell in love with the ZX190 he had but it was just a little out of my budget. We're about to build a house and all. My bride did tell me that if I win a tournament and get that $1000 real cash, I could trade the SX 180 for a new ZX190. This is only the second bass boat I've owned and the other was a tin boat. I'm hoping to start fishing a few tournaments here and there. Not even looking to win, just fish with a purpose I guess.
Anyway, my question is very general. Any advise for a new glass owner? Also, I'd love to hear some opinions about the SX 180! Thanks in advance.

Have the dealer raise the motor 1 or 2 mounting holes. The factory tends to rig the engine too low.

I'll check that! It actually came rigged with a 115 2 stroke so the dealer is changing the engine to a 115 4 stroke. Maybe they'll get it right! Any other opinions or information?

Congrats on the new rig. Get a keel guard, it is the best 300 or so $'s you will ever spend. Don't forget to sign up for the Real Money. If you get up around Nashville, call me and we can go try to catch a few.

Did you get it at Performance?
    Post a pic...
You'll love this boat! Only thing, you'll wish it was a little faster...LOL
You'll need to have the motor in the third hole and run a 19K prop. You'll be able to turn around 6 grand, which is the recommended RPM range... Get in touch with me and we can go over the finer points of this rig. Come on doewn to Columbus and we'll run around a bit.

Yeah, I got it at Performance Plus! Never dealt with them before but seemed like a pretty good dealer. I'm new to boat fishing. I had an aluminum bass boat for a couple years but I've been without for about three years. Anytime you'd like to show me around a Columbus lake, let me know.

I have an 06 with the 115 4 stoke and love the thing. Great hole shot and top end is around 50 on the speedo. I have the dual console, so not much room to move around until you get on the decks, but having the dual console is woth it.

Get a Hamby's. I did, it's about $450-$500 and it only comes in black and white, but not many use the white because it gets dirty and usually doesn't match a white hull. The Hamby's has to be installed by a dealer. It may be more expensive, but it is worth it. Good choice on the SX 180. I had my SX190 out Sunday and finished the 2 hour break in so I got to open it up. Rides nice. BTW, do you know what prop they are putting on that motor for you?

    Re: 2007 SX180 with 115 4-stroke (Big Al)

Also, make sure you break in the 4 stroke properly. The first hour, under 2000 RPM's, second hour, up to 3000 RPM's, next 8 hours variable without WOT for extended periods. You'll won't believe how quiet, quick starting, and smooth that 4 stroke runs. I wouldn't have anything else. And the longer warranty is great.

When you get ready for your oil change, here is a cross reference of oil filters. The Yamaha filter is marginal and a bit pricey. I've listed them in order of best filtration.

    Re: 2007 SX180 with 115 4-stroke (07repsol)

Took the new SX180 out yesterday afternoon for a little while! Man, I can't believe I was actually wondering if I made the right decision over the G3 Eagle 190 aluminum boat! It is awesome! Ride is unbelievable! Plenty of power and room (there were four of us fishing)! Tons of options! I couldn't have been happier! Only gripe I have is they mounted my hot foot to close! Gotta back it up a couple inches but that's it! Couldn't be happier! Thanks to all who gave advise!

Oh, the engine is in the third hole and it had a 19K prop! Ran great!!!!

Don't feel bad... with all the stumps in the Tenn Tom, I really considered the G3 too...
