    83 question

    merry christmas all!!!
I have found 83 champ that looks to be in good shape (pictures only). guy says it is 17' 8". In the pictures it has driver ,passenger, and livewell in one row, then gas tank compartment with pedestal seat on the lid, then splash well. My question is this a 176 or is it 15' or 16' boat. Thanks for the help, I am new to champion boats.

I guess it could be a Super V 176 or a Super V (18'). I recon it depends on what the title says.

If the rear seat pedestal is on the rear lid itself it's a 16'8"

    Pat,
do you know what the hull weight difference between 83 168 and 88 176 would be. 168 has 115 on it is that plenty of power for non tournament fishing. Also are the boats the same basically from console forward. You sure have a lot of info about champs in your head.
    thanks for sharing it.

Not Pat, but maybe the brochure info will help....I do not have the 1983 brochure, but the 1985 one shows approx weight of the 168 at 1040 and the 176 at 1100. I would advise remembering these are guesstimates, and there are several configurations of each model. Brochure weights shown in brochures are not always an exact science. I doubt there would be much difference in weights between 83 and 88, but it would depend on materials used in the build.

The brochures show the 168 HP range to be 80-150. 115 should be plenty fast. I had a 176 with a 110 and it was definitely fast enuf fo tournament or non-tournament fishing. A 115 on a 168 should be somewhat faster....

168 with a 115 is 50 mph rig. The difference is in front of console not behind.
