    Warranty

Has any one had a turn away on warranty work because you purchase the boat or motor from a nother dealer.

    Re: Warranty (jere1936)

Never heard of it happening. If a dealer did that to me, I wouldn't want them to work on my boat anyway. I would call Skeeter & inform them of it though.

No, but that is pretty chitty IMO. Sounds like their just mad cause you or who ever didn't buy it from them.

I've had them tell me that I had the absolute lowest priority because I didn't buy the boat from them and I took it somewhere that wanted my business; a local Yamaha Dealer that always gives me priority for service work (they even work on the boat when needed). I found the same issue with my Harley..."You didn't buy it from me, so you have the lowest possible priority."

I can understand the dealer. Warranty is not a profit center and usually costs the dealer in the long term. As a farm equipment business owner we lose money on warranty work. Now car dealers is different they get paid an incentive from manufacturer to perform warranty service. What I have heard the marine industry is similar to the farm equipment industry there is no added incentives to perform warranty work. Flat Rate Schedules are bare minimums to perform the job, parts used on warranty are paid at cost. Why work on something you have no way to make a fair profit to pay the costs of doing business? That's why most businesses are taking care of the customers that purchase from them first then others. It might be worth adding a little to the price to buy something locally and with a dealer that provides the level of service you deserve.

That there is one big load of crap!!! My new Skeeter costs the same as my wife's new Trailblazer. If that Chevy breaks, any Chevy dealer in the country will take it in. I would go apechit if I didn't get the same from a Skeeter dealer. I don't care if you lose a grand everytime you work on my boat. You should have read the fine print in the contract to be a Skeeter dealer and make thousands each year by selling Skeeter boats. Luckily, my dealer is fairly cool, and I don't think I will ever be faced with having to take the boat elsewhere. But, you never know.

If that really happened to you, you need to call Skeeter for sure. And let us know what happens.

Well sometimes that don't work either. I bought from my local dealer, even though i didn't want to, and still get chitty service. In fact, when i had to do the 10hr. service, i brought it to the ranger/yamaha dealer. The good thing, I have 2 certified yamaha shops in town. I took care of several things myself that were under warranty. Just didn't feel like dealing with the dealer. Knock on wood that nothing serious had to be worked on. In a nutshell, before you think about warranty, think about how your dealer will treat you and if you can say awesome, then buy from them cause you won't have to worry about things like that.
