2000 Ficht 225 Codes 81-86

Was out on the water Friday night and started heading back when the motor just died. No bang, clang, nothing. It was as if I reached up and turned the key off. After calling in favors to have someone tow me back in, I plugged up the laptop and it is showing codes 81-86. Did some reading and found that I either have a grounding problem, or the computer is shot. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Assuming it is the computer, is this something an average joe can replace himself?

You have the dreaded "handful of eights", codes 81 thru 86 which signify the ignition section of the EMM is dead.

BRP has a replacement program for both new and rebuilt EMMs and ECUs, so talk to your dealer.

You can also have the problem repaired thru dfitechnologies.com who has a good reputation.

Most problems like yours happen after at least one overheat condition on the motor or EMM which stresses the electronic components. Heavier duty parts will be installed no matter which avenue you choose for repair.

Make sure the cooling water hoses going to and from the EMM are clear and you can blow thru them easily.

Just wanted to give everyone an update:

Sent the EMM off to DYI last Tuesday, and received it back yesterday. Put it on last night, and she started right up. I cannot wait to take her out this wekend. DYI was very helpful, and I would recomend them to anyone with the same problem I experienced.
