    Golden Doodles?

Anyone have one of these dogs and how are they? Looking at getting one, my neighbor has a litter of puppies and my daughter is really wanting one bad. This is the first litter from the female, she is a Golden retriever and of course the male is a standard poodle. Any thoughts on this breed. Thanks.

If the price is right go ahead...but if your paying big money my advice is just to get a Poodle..My neighbor got a golden doodle and paid around 1500 bucks for it....Makes no sense to me...Poodles are great dogs and if you don't get them show cut they aren't so foofoo...They are actually good hunters..
If the price is right and the poodle came from good lines ..go for it...I love mutts but I have a problem with breeders that pass them off as high end dogs..

The price is right, being he is a neighbor friend and not a breeder. Price is less than half of what breeders are asking. The male and female are great dogs the female (retriever) is more of a red than gold, the male (poodle) is apricot. The female is very docile and the male is loaded with energy but very obedient. He runs like a cheetah and turns on a dime, its neat to what him run around.

Great dogs! They are very smart, loving family dogs. Typically they don't shed much and are hypo-allergenic. 1st generation tend to be the bigger ones(70-90lbs) and almost always end up being blonde color. Poodles carry the recessive fading gene. I wouldn't pay more than a 1000-12000 for a 1st gen either.

Very good friend and neighbor has a female. It is an awesome dog. Extremely smart and trainable. Pick a puppy that pays attention to YOU. Does it naturally look at you? If it ignores you, it will continue to do so and be much more difficult to train. That is my experience anyway...

Love my 6year old Goldendoodle. Extremely smart, loves to fetch a ball like no other dog. House trained right away. Great with kids although very protective of entire family. Doesn't shed like traditional dog does. Go for it!!

I have met a few of them. I actually had one come running halfway across bass pro parking lot to come say hi and few weeks ago. Man what a nice dog. He was so lovable it was unreal.
I had a cockapoo. A poodle , cocker spaniel mix. Best dog I ever had. Would love another one when the time is right.

I saw a few at the OBX recently, and they were some great dogs. Very friendly and playful. They wanted to love everyone and everything.
They're eating the Penguins, they're eating the seals...

    This!

I have a cockapoo, but he's more poodle than cocker spaniel. Great dog! Very intelligent and will manipulate you to get what he wants if you aren't paying close attention.

I had a doodle (half dachshund and half poodle) growing up, she lived a great 10 years until she got a bad respiratory infection and couldn't recover, very wonderful dog.

The poodle part of any mixed breed is the best part, especially the no shedding part. Easy to train too.

Beware of these backyard breeders. Health clearances should be a must for both parents, without them your playing Russian Roulette which could cost you big $$$$ in the end.

My aunt has one. They do need to be brushed probably daily. If you don't brush them enough their hair mats because of the 2 different hair styles. But he is a very smart and good dog.

Not a backyard breeder they have both male and female. I personally have been around the parents for about a year and they are well taken care of and healthy.

Well you guys are not swaying me away from getting him LOL. I had a boxer and didn't really want a foo foo type dog but from what you guys are saying they are pretty good dogs.

There are different hair types among them all, ours never gets brushed, but we have him groomed every 3 months or so

How is the 'prey drive' in the parents? Both those breeds are intelligent and 'if' their prey drive is HIGH that intelligence will try and figure out a way to get moving. If someone will be around for attention and exercise then I'd go for it.
