97 482vs Help

I have a 97 482VS with hydrolic steering. Its leaking fluid out from under the steering wheel. Its running out from where the steering wheel and black canister that holds and fluid fill meet. Its dripping fairly good and hate thought of fishing all year with it that way. Are there any sills I can replace after I pull the steering wheel? It appears to leak more as I work the wheel back forth from several times.

i have the same rig and once had same leak. I had to put new steering pump in it, dealer claimsthey did not sale seals for pump end only for slave clinder

Did your dealer replce the pump for you or did you do it yourself?

There is a shaft seal under the steering wheel that can be replaced. Find your helm model and look up and order the seal kit from sea star.Very easy to do. Did mine awhile ago, there is a cover with philips screws on top of the helm that holds the seal in place. Check the screws on the cover, mine were loose and I think if I could have stopped the leak by tightening the screws first but I already had the new seal so I replaced it.
