Fortrex TM problems on Phoenix 721

I have been fortunate to get loads of helpful information within this forum...so I figured I would give it another shot.

I have a 2012 721 w/ a MK Fortrex 101 trolling motor. The TM and batteries are 5 months old. I have used the boat 4 or 5 times this year and I have had Zero issues with the trolling motor. I used the boat yesterday and the TM was strong all day w/ plenty of juice left to spare after being on the water for 10 hours.

I got home last night and plugged the batteries in. A couple of hours later I hit the TM pedal and the prop would barely spin. It would lightly spin on 100 and wouldnt budge on 20 or 30. The NOCO Genious battery charger showed the batteries to be charging correctly. I unplugged the charger and got the same result. I let the batteries charging over night and this morning I got the same result. I removed the TM prop and there was nothing stopping the prop from spinning.

I turned the TM breaker switch to Off and then back On to see if it would reset it. I checked for corosion on the terminals and tightened them all. I am almost 100% sure that the batteries are fine and dont believe that they are the issue.

Has anyone ever experienced this???? Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

sounds like you have a bad board on the trolling motor under the foot pedal. we have had to replace several.

Ok, thanks for the info. With the TM being less than 6 months old I am assuming that this would be covered by warranty. Is that correct?

Get a good volt meter and learn how to use it...guessing and presuming will be eliminated.

If you have 12 to 12.8 volts at the tm and it does not work properly it is the tm circuit. If not you can have a battery or wiring problem.

It is a good practice to have the main Tm switch off when charging as the charging voltage can be 14+ volts. If the TM switch at the pedal is left on, the board may see this voltage and you are taking your chances.

Troubleshooting is always a step by step process...

Have you checked to make sure you have water in your batteries. If your water is low; it may show the batteries charged, and run out of juice very quickly.

Jr. is probably right...but it wouldn't hurt to check, if you haven't already done that.

    Good luck.
