    New 618 with 175 hpdi

What kind of top speed should I be getting out of a 618 with a 175 hpdi. Try to find the right set up. Prop and jack plate info would be great. thanks.

Re: New 618 with 175 hpdi (RGD)

i have the same boat. I just tried a 24tempest and it did ok. 1/4 tank of fuel, me 230lbs and WAY too much tackle i saw 66.4 at 5750rpm. I am not sure how to measure the height, but Junior said i should be able to raise the motor another hole to improve the performance. i tried a 24 trophy and it didnt perform nearly as well as the tempest. I may try a fury or even a 25 tempest after I raise the motor.

Re: New 618 with 175 hpdi (gwkemp)

Thanks I just got the boat a few weeks ago and the dealer put a 23M on it. I ran 60 with 2 people and full tank of fuel at 5200 rpm. I checked the height and it was 5 inches below pad so I moved it to 3 7/8. Now it runs 63 at 5400 rpms. I guess I am going to raise the motor a little more.

A 24 Tempest with a 6" jackplate should get you right were you want it.

You can definitely run the engine up higher to get more rpm. Should get your speed up to where you want to be

I think Charlie runs a 24 Fury, not sure what his prop to pad height is but he's seeing mid-upper 60. I wouldn't hesitate to put it at 3 1/8" and see what happens. You're definitely too low.

Does that Yamaha have low water pick ups? I raised my engine 1/4" and I lost water pressure in turns. I also noticed no improvements in performance, other than less chine walking.

I forgot what my height my engine is. I can't check it tonight, but I'll get it for you in the morning.

Don't think it has low water pick up but read a lot of people running them 2.5 below pad and still have 18psi of water in turns. I have around 25-28 psi the way it is now.

You should be fine then. I'm at 3.5" below the pad, turning 5800-5900 RPMs.

Sent you an IM too, by the way.

If i raise the motor, do you think I may need to go up in pitch? The 24 tempest turns about 5800 and I have over 30psi trimmed all the way up. The hole shot is great and I wouldnt think the 25 would slow that down some. It walks on me a good bit, but not nearly as bad as my Trion 19X. Never messed with the set up that much, but I think the boat may have 70+ in her if i get it set up right.

Not to start a debate, but I have been a mercury man from day one and was skeptical about the Yamaha. This motor has done more than I thought it would.

You can raise the motor some more and should be able to run at the WOT recommended RPM without trimming all the way out. This would help with the walking issue. A 25 will slow your hole shot and drops RPM in hot weather.

What kind of mph are you seeing they way your boat is with the 24p on it?
