What was the river current? Need to subtract that number from the GPS speed to get the true "on the water" speed.

What is your prop below the pad measurement?

    Either way...great numbers!

I was on old hickory not sure what current was. I have a hydraulic jackplate, full trim an 15 on the jackplate and it's mounted high in the 3rd hole. 27t1

Great speed. The best I've been able to run is 74.5, by myself, with empty gas tank and Talons removed. I think I'm running a 25p. RPM 6150 at 16 on the JP

I like the idea of the SHO, but is it really that much slower than the Merc? I know Layne saw 78.9, but that's about tops for any SHO I've seen.

Or, was my 721 with the 250 Merc an odd ball?

Re: New top speed 78.9 (Jason Phillips)

    Yours was lighter J.

The 36v TM adds some serious weight up front and also with the extra battery (about 80-90 lbs). The demo I had was rigged with the 24v TM and was about 1.5 - 2 MPH faster than my boat is. 76.7 is my max speed so far and the demo hit 78 with me in it.

Same jackplate. Demo had a Merc and I run the SHO, both had manual JP's. Doubt there's much diff if any if all factors on setup and load are equal.

I think these differences all come from weight (duel/single console, tm 24v-36v, Driver weight ... , etc) plus weather conditions (temp, rh, altitude, wind speed and air density)...then add driver ability.

Either way, I am sure the speeds are close..except for bragging rites!

Re: New top speed 78.9 (falcooon)

I have a 36v 101# MK and extra battery. A little bit of extra tackle....no more than 100-150 lbs of cranks and plastics.

Was in an empoundment lake;had no current to assist the speed. Probably ran over a few commorants in the test runs, which caused me to have to back out and start the run over.

I wonder if I can add a wide track grille to that 721 so I can thin out the herd of commorants that are taking up residency. Overall....can't complain about the speed.

Re: New top speed 78.9 (nikldac)

My comments weren't a shot at the speeds or the SHO. I was just asking a serious question about a serious observation. Don't want this post to turn into a big defensive stand about the SHO. I'd run one if it was new.

Really not sure how much lighter mine actually was on the runs I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the 79 and 80 mph runs by myself. I'm talking about the three people aboard, 75 mph runs. I think 2, 250 lb (conservative) guys plus me, our gear, butt seat and pro pole, with rear seat and post, negates an extra battery and bigger trolling motor. Running 76-77 with two people in a tourney also isn't too shabby.

I was running a 12" jack plate, but not sure that would make that much difference.

Either way, the Merc seems a couple or more mph faster. Not a knock on the SHO. Just stating what I've seen in all of the posts. The Merc was always a couple mph faster than the HPDI's too.

I personally like the idea of the driver ability having something to do with it. Makes me think I can drive a boat....

Jason I set that boat up with that hydrodynamics plate which is the plate I am trying to get the factory to switch to and the Mercurys are a little faster overall

I would guess the merc to be a little faster, full tank and 2 people I am always more around 73-74

That's what I'm seeing to Junior.

I loved the plate and was easy to adjust when I tweaked it a little more. The holeshot plate is a must though on the 12" plate. Not to really help with the holeshot as I think I was as fast as any other equivalent boat out of the hole, but to help with the backwash when coming off plain.

Re: New top speed 78.9 (Jason Phillips)

Oh yeah, that 12" Jack Plate makes a HUGE diff. It allowed my Triton 21X HP/250 ProXS to run 80 GPS consistently. Would not touch it with the 6" plate it came with so I have to believe it'll help with this hull too.

And you are totally right on the hole shot plate. Mine would flood the whole back deck coming off of plane without it! I washed my own back a few times before I figured it out!

Bottom line, is these boats are FAST and they drive great. Merc, Johnny Rude, or Yammer Hammer, they are all fast, stable, and fish better than the rest. Glad I own one!!
