Oil coming from the tiny hole infront of the intake....

I noticed some milky oil coming from the tiny hole in front of the water intake. I have a 2005 Evinrude 200 h.o. I pulled the lower plug and sure enough, milky fluid. What would cause water to get into the lower unit and why is it coming out that little hole??? Thanks

I have heard of the washer under the screw not being compressed enough and there is a new screw and washer that has to be tightened with an Allen wrench.

I have the screws that you tighten with an allen wrench. Those seem fine. The oil is coming from the little hole in front of the water intake. Don't know what that hole is, but why is the lower unit lube coming out of there???

Could be the driveshaft seals or o-ring.

Most likely the oil is leaking thru the upper driveshaft bearing housing seals and dripping into the water intake cavity and out the little drain hole. It happens when the motor is tilted up and the oil is hot and under pressure.

There are two different seals and an o-ring that are needed, and perhaps a new water pump since the original has to be removed for access.

Don't attempt the repair without a factory service manual and the seal installer tool and a torque wrench. It is not hard to do for someone mechanically inclined who has no problems changing water pumps and knowing the shift rod adjustment is very critical upon gearcase installation.

I think what he was saying is that you may want to put in a new water pump sinc eyou are in there. Since yours is new, no need to change.

You don't have to put a new pump in if yours is still in good shape. You will need a new plate gasket and housing o-ring seal though.
