Chuck just have the 25 re- pitched to 26... problem solved, great holeshot and the top end speed..
the 25 might be the ticket in summertime though, but with a 26 you'd be turning right at 6K with probably a bit more speed..
I dont think the prop guys like to pitch down, so it would have to be the 25 up to 26..

When i put the 26 tempest plus on my boat, it seemed like it had alot of bow lift.. the Tempest had a little better hole shot light loaded but was slow w/ 2 and tourney load with full wells...
Seems to me the phoenix hull doesnt want alot of Bow- lift, these boats run fastest being very level- like you said

The fury prop has big blades and not alot of cup i think thats why the phoenix hull likes it.. alot less of a lifting prop than the tempest... but definitely faster
Quite a few of the SHO's ive seen around here are running Fury's with no plugs, and i cant figure that out? why does the sho have to have a ventless prop?

Your slip is 7.4% which is very good. Try lowering 1/4-1/2 and see if your top end improves and slip lessens. 6000 @5% will get you 77.... not much more but it's there if it works.

Want to share your prop to pad measurement?

All the Yamaha manuals call for 6000 rpm max so be careful here! I think the 25 will be the ticket for you during warm, humid, months.

Regarding the "ventless" prop issue. I think the point is that the low end torque of the SHO is high enough that prop venting (slipping) during hole shot is not necessary. Not needing to vent (slip) the prop on start up in theory will result in faster acceleration for hole shot.

I would think that if you go with a Fury or other prop that you would do better with all the plugs closed making it "ventless".

Does anyone know at what rpm the overspeed limiter kicks in on the SHO and what happens when it does?

I think a ventless is used to due to the variable valve timing

The ones i've seen have the plugs removed..
My buddy just bought a Demo Alpha 211 with a Sho, Fury prop no plugs.. He said it snaps your head out of the hole
His dealer told him Yam. wasnt recommending he exhaust holes because the sho had so much torque it didnt need them.. But it wouldnt hurt a thing w/ no plugs, if it is a heavy loaded boat..yam. will not make a prop that will put their own motor in specs, and they dont want to sell a boat that will not reach its maximum performance while being in specs " RPM Range"...
Apparently Yam. doesnt have a problem with them rigging their boats this way, but this is a Skeeter/ Legend dealership...
I think alot of this stems from the FX not performing like people were expecting after dropping like 60+k ... either way im no expert at all on a Sho, just lettin you guys know what ive seen around here..
And i was kinda curiouse as to why they set his legend up w/ no plugs if ity had to have them..

Chuck, That's a great write up. you sure make it hard on an old man like myself, not to just run over to Fritts and bring one back.
