I have found a '92 powerhead, will it fit in a '87 ?

Can anyone help me? It's a short block (block and heads) so actually that's all that I'm needing to know about, I'd be using everything else from the '87.
you really need to make sure the new powerhead is not fingerported or that it may have come from a gt/venom as that is a closed deck (looper) where your motor is a crossflow. dont know who you are near or who you are getting it from but if it is a looper you will need to have extra work done to make it fit, if it is a crossflow like yours it should bolt right up. the years of 91-93 can be a pain as Johnson/rude were in the process of changing the designs and some were gt's some were venoms and some like mine were labeled GT/Venom. make real sure and get a good wrench and if possible post the serial number of the PH and they may be able to help ya.

See Rule one.
The model # of the '87 is E200STLCUA, but how do I find out the model/serial # of the new powerhead? The number on the soft plug at the top of the exhaust housing is 62566243 is that it? Or am I looking in the wrong place?
The exhaust cover on the back of the motor looks identical to the '87.
Yep it will go right on. All you need is a new base gasket.
Wonderful!! We just happen to find this brand new power head that has never been rebuilt, it is new never installed. And if I understand it right it has the 3.685 bore compared to the 3.500 that was on the '87 model. So we're expecting a stronger running motor with this powerhead.
Thanks so much for your help. You guys rock!![]()
You are going to be using a different intake and carbs than what originally came on a 92.
This is going to cause some problems, basically your big bore carbs are going to need to be re-jetted by someone who knows how to do it. If done improperly the new powerhead won't last 1 trip.
Your motor should pump out well over 230 hp with the 87 carbs and intake mounted on a stock 92 GT200 block. You can pick up a few more ponies by swapping out the heads from your 87 also. Again, seek a professional who has done this before because the heads need to be modified slightly to keep compression in line and avoid piston top hot spots.
Send ChampionMan an IM, he knows how to do this and it will save you money in the long run by having it done right the first time.
An E-Mail is better,,. Didn't realize it was a closed deck block instead of an open deck, guess me and Rusty both missed a post this week. One like this I'd rather do the Job myself.
