I think my TM is shot and looking to buy a new one.

I fish south La and got a Saltwater model 82lb digital and never really been happy with it. It has plenty of power for my boat but has always been loud. Now when I put the TM down the foot pedal works to turn the TM but both buttons you press with your foot to make the prop turn do not work. I checked fuses and batteries and they seem to good but even with a bad battery the prop should turn.

My question is what shaft are you guys using on z7 45 or 50"? I am worried 45" will come out the water in a chop and just wanted some opinions if I need to go buy another one. I don't fish saltwater that much and when I do it is more brachish than salt so I am looking at the Motorguide Tour 82

I use a 60" shaft on my 10' Z7. There have enough times I have been glad I had the extra length. If it were me I would not go under 50" for sure.

Keith, have the 50" and times I wish I had the shorter shaft especially when flipping. The longer shaft is nice when fishing deep water and waves.

Thanks Bryan. I went with 45" tour 82 model. Got it installed and it is working fine. You fished with me before and know if I am fishing 5' it is deep so I figured the 45" would be better for me. My last TM was a 45" and I never had any issues.

I would think about fixing the one you have first. Chances are it is the switch that went bad and that is all. I would look into fixing it first at a repair shop. could be a simple fix. then if you want to upgrade you could always sell it after you fix it to get something out of it instead of scrapping it.
