This is why after 8 Lowrance units I switched to Humminbird. I had a 2.5 year old 522c that some buttons quit working on. They would only sell me a new unit for $375, so I would have an hds 5 that cost me almost $1000. No upgrade to a 7" for extra cost. No fixing the 522c because it "was too old" Humminbird will work on their models for 7 years after they quit making the unit.

on the switch to HB. Similar thing happened to me with a 2 year old Lowrance that I paid around $1400 for. Only thing wrong was the backlight but they wanted me to pay them over $500 more to upgrade...and not to a Side Imaging type unit. So...after years of having Lowrance products and dealing with their less than desirable customer service, I switched to Humminbird. I love my 998si HB....so much that I promptly bought a 798 too. I would tell anyone looking to go check out the HB board. HB customer service has been top notch.
