do you charge them after ever use, and then again before next use???
do you turn off all electronics and master switch???
before you throw them away, are you checking to make sure they are full of water? alot of times after sitting up during off season, some of the water inside evaporates... you can extend the life by filling them back up...

Dont have a pro xs, but had no problems with the pro max or the xb
What is the volt meter at w.o.t.
Have you checked the charger out put.
Are you using s/s nuts in place of the wing nuts.
My promax did have a ground on the hot wire inside of cowl. Rubbed a bare spot in it on a bracket.
THEY ARE CHARGED AFTER EACH USE AND ARE CHARGED WITH STEALTH CHARGER WHEN NOT IN USE WITH MASTER TURNOFF ON.I WAS TOLD BY LEE SANDERSON TO USE 750 AMP BATTERY BECAUSE 1000 AMP BATTERIES ARE NO GOOD.
you lee is the man, but i was always told to go 1000 amp on these OPTIMAX motors...750's can cause problems with the motors...

I'm gonna bet thats the opposite of what he told you. You need the 1'000's on the opti/DFI motors. As far as your battery problems ? It could be a variety of reasons. Brand, how and if they are being charged,a short in the system causing a constant drain etc etc.

Am I missing somthing or did you get on here, ask a question that a couple knowledgable people tried to help you with then get defensive when you didn't agree with them???![]()

used to have a Gambler...
2 years on a battery that gets a lot of use might not be too bad..and how do you know they are gettin charged...i had my stealth charger show green, with a dead battery...charger was shot...could be a bad battery brand, or several other things...typing in caps is yelling, and when guys are trying to give you some things to think about...you lose your credibility by yelling...if you want help, then please continue...maybe you will find a solution..![]()

Didn't mean to offend you in some way Andy. Its just general theory that an optimax needs 2 least a 1000 MCA battery or a 750 CCA battery. I don't make the recommendations. This is just general knowledge that's been around since the big block opti's came out.
I spoke to Mercury yesterday. The only testing they have is on the 1000cca batteries, therefore that is what they recommend. If a 750cca starts the engine their should be no problems.

better get your charger checked out then....you should get 5 years out of any battery as long as you charge before and more importantly AFTER each use...

Did they say CCA or MCA ?
I'd recommend reading through the following post COMPLETELY:
http://www.bbcboards.net/zerot...st-in
For Optimax V-6 models, a MINIMUM capacity for the ENGINE is recommended at 800CCA or 1000MCA.
That's for the ENGINE. Now... if you're going to run pumps, livewells, two graphs (one of which is probably an HD or side imaging), etc- you're GOING TO NEED MORE CAPACITY.
We must remember- that when you turn your key to the START position, all of the following must be powered up (and adequate voltage present to KEEP them powered up)- IN ADDITION to the STARTER ITSELF:
-Main Power Relay
-ECM or PCM
-TWO Electric Fuel Pumps
-SIX Direct Injectors
-SIX Fuel Injectors
-SIX Ignition Coils (may also include external drivers)
-An array of sensors that the PCM uses to compute engine information.
If battery voltage drops below 11.1 Volts, a wide array of problems can occur (ranging from a no-start condition, to reduced power, Engine Guardian, and a variety of faults).
We see this EVERY DAY. Dealers read a manual- look at the minimum capacity listed, and install that capacity battery. Well- it'll start the engine just fine when it's fully charged.
However- that day when you've found the best spot on the pond- fished it for four hours, livewells pumping, graphs graphing, etc- will BE THE DAY that you find out if your battery is going to "make the grade or not".![]()
I've never heard ANYONE complain to me that their battery had too high of a capacity rating, or lasted too long.![]()
