    DI Vs ETEC 115hp

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi does any one out there have a direct comparison of the two? just ordered a new 115 and sold my DI, i was happy with the DI but thoought it lacked a bit of top end speed compared to some carbed engines i know. I am hoping the new etec has some extra guts as i am told it has.

While both are Great motors the E-Tec will have advantages over the DI and since you did not post what boat you are running it would be hard for us to answer the speed (guts) question.

I have a 115 E-Tec on a very heavy aluminum plate (1/4" bottom) runabout, plenty of power good on fuel, I don't drive it at WOT that's to fast for our conditions, a top motor rumored to produce 125HP

Hi Phantom, last week we did what you are thinking of doing to a customers boat. It was a Seafarer 5.5M fibreglass Cuddy Cabin that weighs about 1000kgs and we removed the 115HP DI XL Evinrude we sold him back in 1999 and fitted a 115HP XL E-TEC. The customer kept his prop which was the old style 17 inch 4- blade Renegade OFFSHORE prop-similar to the new Cyclone. I went to the water with him to run the new E-TEC and he was very happy. The E-TEC was alot quiter, it kept the boat on the plane at about 500 RPM less than the DI did, it went quicker by about 4 MPH and much more responsive on the same boat using the same prop. We had fitted the digital commander tacho and the best fuel economy we saw was 18 LPH at about the 3500 RPM which was a nice cruise seppd of 24 MPH on that boat. I am sure he will see the E-TEC will use less fuel than the DI and also oil because we programmed the E-TEC to run on XD-100 oil, as we do to most of our customers who buy an E-TEC.

Again he was very pleased and I am sure you will be if you get the swap done, just be sure to have the E-TEC propped to run at its optimum WOT RPM of 5600-5700.

    Cheers,

    Huey.

Thanks very much for all the replies.

I should have mentioned that i actually race the 115 DI in the UK offshore.
I have a 18 foot Phantom that my dad builds. the whole rig weight is approx 575kgs i run a tuned 24 raker @ about 5650 RPM and about 62 MPH.
I will get some pics to show!
    Thanks

I had a 2000 Ficht, 115 and replaced w/ 2007 115 E-Tec. Used same prop. Top in 4mph faster out of box. Great engine so far.
