I'd say it depends on how much you want to spend. I built the first recess tray in my boat, myself. I only replaced it because my Evinrude trolling motor died, and the foot pedal for the Motorguide I replaced it with, wouldn't fit. I replaced it with a Troll Eze that I got from Tackle Warehouse for $100. It's aluminum with a black powder coating on it. It's well built and simple, but you can always go for one with more bling, for more money.

I know one thing, it's the best money I have ever spent on my boat.

I like the troll well because its fiberglass and can be color matched to your boat. The regular white gelcoat I believe is around $120-140. Metallic flake match is $160+

On a previous boat I installed the ez troll tray. It had a drainage tube and it worked fine for me.

I have a ComfortTroll. I like it and it is built well and comes with everything you need to install. Not sure if it is the best but it is a good quality tray.

R&R Designs (sold through Black Bear Sporting Goods) is a nice powder coated aluminum unit at a very reasonable price. It doesn't come with a drain tube, but for a couple dollars, you can easily install one.
