    Loose Jackplate

Started noticing a very small gap between the jackplate and the transom on my 07 2200 GBoat. Found the 6 bolts on my Bob's Jackplate to GBoat transom to be loose. The nuts rotated at 10 ft lbs. How much torque should be applied to these 1/2 diameter bolts? I do not want to crush the transom or crack the gelcoat. Anybody out there tighening their nuts?

I don't know what the torque specs are but I always tighten all my nuts as tight as I can tighten them... Then I check them everytime I come in after a long day of fishing if there loose I re-tighten....

I had the same problem when I bought my boat. I took mine off resiliconed and bolted it back up and I also put silicon around the washers also to make it water tight. I then torqued everything after putting on the red locktite. I then put on a second nut on each bolt with locktite and torqued it also. I think I put mine at 100ft lbs. Its hard to do by yourself. You kinda need an extra hand to hold the bolt head in the boat. We used a 1/2 in ratchet, 3ft extension, and a long piece of pipe on the ratchet. To hold it with. And I used a 1/2 in sk tq wrench on the nuts. I also replaced my bolts with grade 8 steel bolts. The factory stainless bolts won't rust but they won't handle much torque either. I ended up having 2 broke bolts. I guess thats why they were all loose and my engine moved around. I just wanted a permanent fix. So far its been nearly a year and they haven't loosened up yet.

Your not going to hurt the transom. I didn't notice any gel coat problems either.

So there must be enough room in the transom area to pull the bolts out. I noticed that the bolts that are present are not high grade stainless bolts. Yes, I will change mine to a high grade bolt. Do you remember what length those are. If I can purchase the new bolts / nuts before starting the project it would be best. I'll do some checking on the torgue ratings and post that info.

I don't remember the legnth. You'll probably have to just pull it down then get your bolts. They are very long though. The transom on the 2200 is about 4inches thick.

The proper torque spec is 40 ft/lb any more than that and you can damage the fibre glass. I check mine 4-5 times a year. Locktite works good to.

Oh well I guess I am over spec. At least it's not coming off.

(Oh well I guess I am over spec. At least it's not coming off.)

Mine too.. I think I did mine to a double grunt which I calculate to be around 100Ft/lbs.

I would surely think the spec would be higher than 40Ft/Lbs. tho... That is the same torque spec on a 3/8 fastener...

Oh well mine is on there good and "tight" too I suppose....
