I would love to have a jack plate on my boat. I just can't justify the price for this boat, but would enjoy the performance. Has anyone tryed a Set Back plate.

What boat do you have? I can't imagine mine with one.

Trent do you have a jackplate on yours if so what size...mine has the 6inch manual...someone told me I could get more speed without it but find that hard to believe...

Mine came w/ the 6" manual jackplate. I am about 4 1/2" below the pad. Never ran it w/o a plate but when I got the boat it was set about 5 1/2" below pad. By raising motor I picked up maybe 3 mph but it REALLY improved the ride at wot. I don't think G3 likes you to put a plate on their Eagle line of boats but you could call them if that is what you own.

g3man, I would call G3 and find out if a plate will affect warrenty. I do think, but have no proof, that a plate would probably help performance b/c you can optimize motor hieght.

I was looking at the set back brackets at bobs machine shop. They have 4" and 6". I was leaning towards the 6". For $120.00 bucks verses $800.00. Will they help the performance or just look good and do nothing. The reason I'm even looking into this is, I notice as I am running wot I see alot of turbalance of water slapping back at my transom. I figured if I moved it back, it would help elimanate most of or all of it. Am I on the right track?

G3man,i have a 17' xpress with a 90 and it didn't come with a plate.I added a 6" plate and picked up 3 mph by itself.I then stuck a 10" on it and picked up 2 more mph for a total of 5mph in a jackplate. It also improved the handleing as well.![]()
