    2001 170 questions

Howdy everyone I was hoping some of you guys could help me out here. I am in the market for a boat and local dealer has a2001 G3 Pro 170 with a 25hp 4 stroke. I am trying to find out what this boat is worth assuming it is in good condtion. Also I can't seem to find and specss on this boat but it seems the newr ones have a max rated HP of 90, so 25 seems really small. Here in SoCal most lakes have a 20-25MPH speed limit anyway so it doesn't need to be super fast but it does need to be able to plane and move at more than a snails pace. This would be my first boat other than a wooden one i built with my dad when I was a kid so looking for all the help I can, thanks.

NADA does boats also. Check it out. And also the 25 does seem pretty small. Before I bought my 07 G3 with the F90TLR, I had a 87 Tracker with a Merc 45 2-stroke. It would manage around 22-24mph. So the 25 might not do you justice or be anywhere near what your looking for. I would look for one with a 60 or more on it. Boat trader, craigslist and local classifieds are good places to look.

25hp won't get you to 25mph on a 17' boat. Heck, it probably won't even get you on plane! I had a Tracker 175 (17') with a 40hp and it got to a top speed of 28mph on a cool day going down river!

Given what you want to do, keep looking. G3 makes a great boat, but do yourself a favor and don't underpower. If the dealer is willing to swap out for a bigger engine, great - go with max if at all possible, but at least a 40hp on a 17' boat.

As the prior poster noted, NADA guides have boat and motor prices.
