Cobra 188Dc versus Cobra 190DC ?

Any one know the difference between these two boats? Surley not just 2 inches? Just curious.

Initially they made a boat that was 17'10" and is was called a Cobra 1710 to indicate the boat's length but later they changed the name to a Cobra 180, but it was still only 17'10" in length. Same was true for the Cobra 188 which was 18'8". The model was changed to a Cobra 190 but it still remained 18'8" in length. Perhaps changed just for simplicity reasons but ????? Maybe Cleveland will chime in on this to help clarify. A bit easier to understand their flagship model, the Cobra 201. That indicated a length of 20'1" and any boat over 20' is not regulated by the Coast Guard as far as HP is concerned, so the original boat plates indicated the the HP was unlimited.

Thanks, the reason I asked was my 99 190D is 18'10" and another 99 188D is 18'8" , both the same year but 2" different, I measured mine several times and get 18' 10" with a 92" beam, mine is rated for 200 HP and I was wondering the HP rating on the 188D? Not important just curious. Now her is a kicker~~my buddy has a Ranger 188 with a 175 HPDI {06 model} My Cobra now has a 8" jackplate his has none, my Cobra is so faster out the hole that he never can catch me on top end, we both have GPS and mine shows 61 WOT while his shows 65 GPS, yet he can't run with me, seems to me the extra 4mph should catch him up with me.

My '96 188d is rated at 200 hp. I have a '96 200EFI Merc. 6in CMC jackplate. I run 67(gps) WOT with livewells full and half tank of gas.

If you're only running 61mph, I'd say you have more speed to get by making a fews adjustments. For starters, what's the distance from your pad to the prop shaft? What kind of water pressure are you getting at WOT? What engine and prop are you running? What are your RPM's at WOT? Also, be sure when you trim up that the roostertail is below the top of your cowl.
