    Motor break in

Second rebuild, but this time from a real builder. Added a few ponies, break in is going to take awhile per the builder, but should be worth the wait. Will post numbers when I can open it up. Good to be back on the water, even if it is 3500 rpm and below for now

Chris...how long were you off the water waiting for the rebuild?

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!

Re: Motor break in (Backlash Ar)

About 3 and a half months. Most of that was being busy at work and we took in a 17 yr old nephew right after the motor blew, so my time was better spent around the house than out on the lake. It would have only taken about two weeks if I sent it and asked for it to be built ASAP.

Builder actually asked me to come down and watch him put it together, Jay Smith is the builder, two Unlimited Outboard Championships under his belt and he builds for professional racers, or the recreational boater. I think I am going to be very happy with this motor!!!

Must be a 2.5 if Jay Smith built it. He does great work and doesn't mind sharing his knowledge with those of us who don't build engines for a living. It will be interesting to see your numbers. Jim

    Re: Motor break in (moldman)

Yes sir, 2.5 and I think it is going to have plenty of push in it when I can open it up. Jay did something in the case that gives me 6.5 lbs psi on the up stroke instead of 5 lbs standard. He said it was like super charging the motor.

I've already had to go up two pitches in the prop just for break in. The prop I had on it just won't get any bite with the extra ponies, even when trying to just ease into it. I think I'll be very happy, my only regret on this boat was that it was a 200 EFI, and not a 225. I am well past that now!!!
