Lightbulb BGSU Bass Fishing Cub Raffle. How many would be interested in buying tickets?

    Hello all,

I am currently the president of the Bowling Green State University Bass Fishing Club. We are going to do a raffle as our main fundraiser this year to help offset the costs of traveling the country fishing the FLW Collegiate Series. I'm just wondering how many people on BBC would be interested in buying tickets for the raffle. We will be setting up a page that is similar to a Go Fund Me page so people can have the option of ordering tickets online. We would either email you copy of your tickets or mail you your tickets. You also have the option of paying cash or a check made out to the BGSU Falcon Fishing Club that will go into our account with the university and will receive a copy of the receipt for your check. Some details for the raffle are below. Its not set in stone yet so if anybody has any suggestions, comments, or anything like that let me know as we want to make this as successful as possible.

Tickets will be $5 a piece or 5 tickets for $20.

Our grand prize is a two person small mouth charter on Lake Erie with Matt Vermilyea. This year will be Matt's rookie season on the Bassmaster Elite Series, he has had tremendous success on Lake Erie in the Bassmaster Opens, FLW Rayovac Series, and FLW BFL. The charter would have to be redeemed in September or October due to his busy Elite Schedule.

Our second place prize is going to be a Dobyn's Champion rod in the model of your choosing.

Our third place prize is going to be a $50 Bass Pro Shops or Cabela's Gift Card

Let me know if you guys have any suggestions or constructive criticism and if you would be interested in purchasing tickets.

You might want to check on the legality of that before you get into it very far.

2915.092 Raffles - Illegal conduct of raffle - penalties.

(A)(1) Subject to division (A)(2) of this section, a charitable organization, a public school, a chartered nonpublic school, a community school, or a veteran's organization, fraternal organization, or sporting organization that is exempt from federal income taxation under subsection 501(a) and is described in subsection 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(7), 501(c)(8), 501(c)(10), or 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code may conduct a raffle to raise money for the organization or school and does not need a license to conduct bingo in order to conduct a raffle drawing that is not for profit.

This was in the sheet that the school gave us at the beginning of the school year during our fundraising session.

That's Ohio law. If you are going to be soliciting folks outside of Ohio it becomes a federal question.

    Take a look at http://shpclaw.com/Schwartz-Resource...-raffle-legal/

Thank you, I emailed the head of fundraising for organizations and she's going to look into it and let us know what changes or what we need to do to stay legal.

Good prize if you live in Ohio , better results if you put up a New Ranger 520 and sell tickets nation wide for $50.00 each .

I would love to do something like that. But that's a huge commitment for 18-23 year olds. We'd have to sell a ton of tickets to break even.

Hahaha we'll never get anything from our local bass pro shops. I worked there for two years in the fishing department and approached them several times with sponsorship proposals for our club while I worked there and they told us they didn't have room in the budget. The girl in charge of promotions is even a student at our university. After years of hearing they have no money they announce that they gave Adrian College a sponsorship. I love Adrian and know Seth personally but you would think they would want to support a university that is 15 minutes away that gets minimal support from the school instead of one that gets major support from the school that's almost an hour away. You would think that you would want to support your employees and the school you go to but apparently not. This spring we needed to complete community service hours for the school and I approached them about volunteering for any kids fishing events or just fishing events in general and I never heard anything back from them. So long story short I avoid bass pro like the black plaque
