    Lets talk corals

What works best as far as setup, prop to pad measurement, jackplates, props, what works what doesn't. I'm still working on mine, been playing with the jack plate and the prop and its very sluggish out of the hole. porpoising at mid speeds ? Just need a good starting point. Brian

I think you are in uncharted waters with that 300 Pro-Max, because nobody else has a 300 Pro-Max on a Coral 202. And there are no hard & fast rules....

General rules of thumb for these boats is that high engine heights with the prop shaft up close to the pad, don't work well. Most of us probably run with the prop shaft in 3" to 3.5" below the pad range. That's not to say you couldn't come up with a combo that will run high.

A jackplate definitely helps, an 8" plate is OK, but bigger ones seem to help. For that size boat, a 10" or 12" woud have probably been a better choice, but you're OK with an 8".

For props, many Coral owners use a 25" Tempest Plus 3-blade with good results, but they're running 225 EFIs or 200 EFIs. I would try a 25 Tempest Plus as a starting point and to compare it with the 24" Trophy. One of those new Fury props in a 25" would be great to try if you can borrow one.

These hulls aren't prone to porposising anymore than any other, that is usually a trim issue, you may be trimming a little too high for the speed you're running.
I think sluggish hole shots was always a big problem with the 300 Pro-Maxs.

The trophy is going to be sluggish on a 300PM..I went to a Bravo 1 when i had mines on a 20' Bullet..Then my hole shot was killer..See if you can find a 26 Bravo 1 with 1" vent holes..

So the trophy doesn't work well on the 300 ? I picked up a 25 high five that I'm going to try. I will watch out for a Bravo 1 , I don't see nearly as many of those for sale as trophys. Are the promax 300's known for slow hole shot? and why?
How about a holeshot plate? will it help? Thanks for the help.

The 300 was known for a sluggish hole shot till the correct prop is applied.Mostly in the Sportmaster 1.62 gear ratio..The trophy with a 300PM took me about 40 yards to get on step with my Bullet.Lower gear ratio less prop spin so its slow out the hole..With your 1.75's you shouldn't have a problem with the right prop. The Trophies are known for slow hole shot cause most are over pitched and not evenly pitched..I had a 27 Trophy that measured 28.5 on 2 blades and 28 on the other two.Plus the Trophy has a small hub which makes it harder for your motor to get rid of the exhaust and water..
I ran a 25p Fury the other day and i was impressed for a 3 blade prop to get my Coral up on the rear end so quick.Do like Alan said and get a Tempest which is known to work on the boat to start with. That will give you an idea where you need to go.I have a 25P Tempest now that i'm going to try with my 225EFI..I'll let you the outcome..

That High Five may not give the best Top End numbers but it will get that boat up on the pad in a hurry. I ran one on my 201 and it launched it like a rocket ship.

I will keep an eye out for a tempest to try. The reason I got the high five was for skiing, good hole shot and mid range. My trophy has no hole shot and is tricky to control speed at ski or tube speeds , it only likes to go fast .
