New to the board. I have a 2001 225HO Rude Ram and the swivel bracket bushings and seals are bad. Ok my first question is do you have to remove the power head to change the bushings. I know the LU has to be removed but from everything I've looked at there is only six bolts that hold the motor to the swivel bracket. If I am missing something please tell me. Also can a flywheel puller with a eyebolt be used instead of the motor puller tool from evinrude.
The only thing left hanging on the boat transom will be the port and starboard transom brackets that mount the motor to the boat. You definitely need an OEM service manual for that job. It's not a bad job but it takes a good bit of time to complete. Can't advise about the flywheel puller with an eyebolt. I don't see why not if the hardware is equivalent in quality and strength. If it's not, the engine will hit the concrete.
Thanks for the info. I had a couple of shops tell me the power head had to be removed but a tech at evinrude said it didn't. I just wanted some input from someone who's already done this.
