What kind of battery charger is in my boat?

It's a 99 201D.

I have always thought that it would automatically shut off when the batteries were completely charged, but I had never tested that theory. Well my theory was wrong. I accidently left it plugged in for three days and toasted two batteries.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these chargers. How many amps they put out, if they are supposed to shut off automatically, is there a light somewhere that tells when the batteries are charged, etc.

I was also considering replacing them with Optima marine batteries and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them.

They are made by Charging Systems Internation in Tennessee. They have a pretty good reputation but I did have one do the same as yours. Replaced it with a larger one. Your charger puts out 10 amps per battery and yes, it is supposed to shut off automatically. If your battery is getting weak and the charger can't get it to 100%, then it will continue to charge until it fries your battery.
