    1996 Cobra 200 Merc $$$$

I am about to purchase a 1996 Cobra measuring 18.9 ft with a 200 EFI merc. Not sure of the model number. Looked at it Last Friday night. Decided to buy yeasterday, Will pick it up in a day or so.

Is this classified as a 18 or 19 Ft?

Is $6000.00 a good price? Color is Black w/white hull gray interior. It has a 50# trolling motor, on board charger, stainless steel 4 blade prop, single axel trailer, 200 EFI Merc, 2 fish finders both eagles, Dual console, and more.

Hi Lawrence !!!! WELCOME to the Cobra family. Glad to have you aboard. Do your friends call you Lawrence or Larry ?

Your boat is classified as a 188 and I think you did good in picking up a boat, motor, and trailor for $6000.

Backlash should be along here sooner or later to give you all the particulars about your boat if you need to know something in particular.

    Again......WELCOME ABOARD !!!

Lowrance...That's an excellent price, almost too excellent (if you know what I mean). As with any used boat you should have it checked it out thoroughly from stem to stern, including having YOUR mechanic check out the engine and make sure you get an "on the water" demo also, then you drive it. During the demo listen for anything that doesn't sound right, and by all means ask questions. (Cobra's are very easy to drive and have virtually no chine walk). I hope you didn't just commit to purchasing this boat because of it's cosmetic features. (Although I have to admit Cobra's are a sweet looking ride). The engine is the big thing. There's no way to tell on an EFI how many hours are on it or how many times its been close to or over the rev limiter, so it's imperative that it's checked out with a fine tooth comb. Here are some specs for that boat:
Length 18' 8", Beam 93", @Weight 1350lbs., 36 gallon fuel tank/44 gallon was an option, top limit of HP rating was 200HP.

Make sure YOUR mechanic checks out the trolling motor, electrical system, gauges, livewell pumps, locators, trim & tilt, interior lights etc. This might cost you anywhere from $50-100 but it will be money well spent and give you peace of mind.

The Cobra is a solidly constructed boat, so if you just rub your hand over the hull and bottom and don't feel anything amiss, you should be good to go. One other thing I would do is remove the little trap door in the bilge area to further expose the transom and stringers. Make sure there are no soft areas, cracking or loose stringers. Those boats, as were most of them back then, were constructed of wood encapsulated with fibergalss and there's nothing wrong with that. There might be some spider cracks in the gel coat but those are no biggie. However, pay extra special attention to the transom when checking for cracks.

Hope this helps...you'll be happy with a Cobra!

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!

    Re: 1996 Cobra 200 Merc $$$$ (BassCat78)

Well I did it. It Is in my driveway.

I got It for 6k from a guy that works with my son-in-law. He had to get rid of it for various raeasons. One of witch is financial, another he no longer has anything to tow it with, etc etc. At any rate it runs good all is well. My Neighbor also works with my son-in-law and had looked at the boat and wanted it but had to sell a 4 wheeler first, needless to say I beat him to the punch. He is envious now.

It needs some locks on the covers etc. but nothing major, maybe a new windshield on the passenger side, thats about it.

    Thanks guys
