    QUICK QUESTION??

I JUST INSTALLED A NEW RECESSED FOOT PEDAL IN MY 2002 201. MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO THE CUT EDGE OF THE DECK FIBERGLASS TO PREVENT MOISTURE FROM WEAKENING THE DECK OVER TIME.
HAS ANYBODY ELSE INSTALLED ONE OF THESE ON THEIR BOATS?

    Re: QUICK QUESTION?? (bassin man)

I never have, but I would apply some fiberglass resin to the edges to seal out moisture. It probably wouldn't hurt to run a small bead of marine grade GOOP under the plat lip, either. JMO

Please post a pick of your results! That's something I am considering.

    Hey Bassin Man,

I have been contemplating doing the same to my 2002 - 201 also, just haven't got up the nerve to cut a hole in the front deck. One of these days!! How did the job go? Fairly easy? Where did you get the insert for the recessed box? I was thinking of one fabricated of stainless steel. Are you happy with the outcome of the job?

I installed a comfotrol last spring and covered the entire raw wood edge with 3-m marine sealant then put a bead on the under side of tray and screwed it down. After I installed it I drilled a few more holes in the tray to let water out, now I'm concerned with the foam absorbing water, I'll probably pull it out and take a look.

    Re: QUICK QUESTION?? (MigAz)

HEY GUYS, THANKS FOR THE INPUT. I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO CHECK OUT WEST MARINE OR SOMETHING AND PULL OUT THE TRAY AGIAN AND SEAL THE EGDE AND MAYBE FIND SOMETHING TO RESEAL THE CUT EDGE OF THE FOAM. I GUESS I SHOULD ADD ANOTHER DRAIN W/ A HOSE FOR EXTRA DRAINAGE AND TO MAKE SURE THE WATER GOES DRIECTLY INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE BILDGE OF THE BOAT. I'LL TAKE A PICTURE AND POST IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A PRODUCT THAT WILL BOND TO THE FOAM AS WELL AS THE FIBERGLASS? MAYBE BACKLASH OR SOMEBODY AT THE PLANT WILL KNOW AND COULD ASSIST ME. AND BOY LET ME TELL YOU CUTTING THAT HOLE WAS REALLY INTIMIDATING!!!! I GOT THE PATTERN TRACED OUT AND MARKED IT AND I WAS STARTING TO SWEAT BULLETS, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE FOR SECOND THOUGHTS.. OVERALL I AM HAPPY WITH THE PRACTICALITY AND LOOKS OF THE PRODUCT. I THINK I AGREE WITH YOU ALL, I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE MOISTURE BETWEEN THE INSERT AND THE DECK.

If I had to do it again I don't think I would drill the extra holes, the Comfotrol drains good with the stock hole and it comes with a fitting and plastic tubing so you can get the water to the bottom of the boat. Maybe the foam doesn't absorb water, anyone out there had any experience with this.

    Re: QUICK QUESTION?? (tom h)

    Tom,

I'm going to put one in my 188 in the next few weeks. I've been looking at the Pro-Tray. What made you choose the Comfortrol? How deep is the Comfortrol?

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Tom

I chose the Comfotrol because I liked the looks, the rounded back edge. A year ago when I got it there were only two that were very popular and I thought the other looked huge and would take more room than was necessary. I have a newer MG with the metal pedal and it is pretty much flush with the deck when sitting in the tray. My only complaint may be that when I push way down with my heel the back of my foot may hit the edge of the tray. Spend some time locating it on your deck, get an idea how far from the pedastal you have the pedal now and use that as a starting point for your location, even if you stand without the seat eventually you'll fish in rough water and need to use it while on the tm. If you want I can measure the location of mine and let you know. Also Jim at comfotrol was good about returning email and available by phone.
