Fickled FICHT Indeed!!!!!! Desparity sets in...

I just took my boat out for the secoond time yesterday and guess I blew the motor......why I dont know. I could have had bad fuel still in the tank as I thought I had siphoned out all of it. I went to the gas station and fuel with 25 galons and got to the ramp and after starting it I notice the fuel gauge at FULL! I ran the boat thinking the fuel coun't be that bad.....But I guess it was bad enough? Still havn't ok'd the boat yard to tear it down as I am pending the insurance company getting back to me as to "could bad fuel be a covered item"? When I removed the gas I stopped getting more and had only filled a 5 gallon tank then turn the key on and the gauge said empty. i guess what this boild down to is I am at the mercy (or not) of the insurance company and I definately have a blown motor...Why does life deal such sucky cards to good people in life?? OK I'll stop ranting here and crying over spilt milk. Does anyone have any ideas or fixes for this issue out there? I could have told lies to the insurance company, run it over rocks after hearing the knock etc. But.......I am a man that lives with integrity and plan to die this way. Like the guy at the marina said...being that way sometimes cost money. The engine is as follows. A 1999 FICHT Model Number:E225FPLEED. Serial number: G04729911. Running a Raker 28 P. Motor was just Serviced at the same shop it is at now pending decisions. They ran it with the shop gas..I didn't obviously...

I too feel your pain, same thoughts went through my mind. After a Minnesota winter to look at all options and think long and hard I decided to repower to a brand new ETEC. It wasn't light on my wallet, but at least I should have 7 years of warranty to help me in the future. Sorry to hear about your loss, If you should need advice on options feel free to IM me.

yea....what I figured...No Insurance...No luck.....the engine is totaled. All cylinders are scored and top end is really bad. He said looks like a oil injection problem. Parting out the remainder of what is left on it I guess. HO Lower unit up for grabs... And a Nice cowling! Anyone know where I might find a new powerhead for this rig....cheap?

    Re: (microman) (microman)

That would be he thing to do. Unless your buying new, you may buy someone elses problems. If you want to keep the boat then rebuild is the way to go. It will cost more like 5000-6000 to rebuild.

    Re: (microman) (microman)

Bite the bullet and re-power with a new E-Tec and many years of warranty. Otherwise......you will spend the $4,000 to $6,000 on a rebuild...only to have the motor..."POP" sometime in the future. The 2 stroke motors don't seem to have a good track record on rebuilds.....once they have Popped!!

Sorry about your bad luck. My self........I can't wait til I sell my boat with a 2 stroke...so I can buy a 4 STROKE motor!!!!!! Then I won't have to worry about my motor going.....................POP!!
