loss of rpm question

78 85 hp johnson, on a 17' dixie. max hp is 115. early this morning,55 - 60 degrees i was turning 5100 - 5200 rpm at 39.2 mph gps at WOT.

Later in the day (noonish), 75 - 80 degrees i was turning 4800 rpm at 35.5 -36.5 mph. hole shot was still good. There was 2 ft waves, and it warmed up a good bit. would the waves/current cause my loss in rpm? Still have power on all 4 cylinders, butterflies fully opening. good compression on all 4.

I'm not sure if i usually lose rpm in the current, because i havent really fished in that much wind before. Hoping it was the change of conditions causing me to lose rpm, as now I'll be worried about it until i get a clear day again to take it back out.

Yes running up current in a wind will cause this.

thanks for easing my mind. This wasnt just when I was going against the waves, but with them too. I figured maybe it was because of the bouncing on the waves, and i assumed that since i still had good hole shot, it would be alright. now I just have to wait for my broken arm to heal, but thats another story.
