I recently had my boat and motor swamped. I panic-ed and try to start the motor before I thought about what I needed to do and started and ran the motor without draining the plastic intake cover or cowl. I just barely made it to the ramp running. I could barley turn 3500 rpms and the boat would not plane off. When I got the boat up on the trailer and pulled out I removed the top of the motor cover. This was when I realized that I had gotten alot more water in the motor than I thought. I unhooked the plastic intake cover and drained it completely. The lower cowl drained itself.
I then removed the plugs and started to crank the motor. I would stop and spray WD-40 in the cylinders and continue cranking until no more water. I then felt for compression on the compression stroke of each cylinder. That is when I found my number 2 cylinder to be shot. Everything else appears to be fine except for the number 2 cylinder. I would like to know since this thing has to be taken down to the powerhead to fix the one cylinder should I go ahead and install new pistons, rings and cylinder sleeves in all of the holes???? Should I go with a remanufactured powerhead??? Also, is there any chance of installing 225 HO Ficht Powerhead on this midsection??? Any help is appreciated. This is the first time I have had major motor trouble in 20 years of boating and fishing. Thanks, Tnfish.
