    Set up Help

Been fighting my 07 396 since I bought it. Here what's happening. My boat has a 6" Hydro jacker Jackplate, I can only mount the motor about halfway on it because if I have it down even at halfway, when I tilt my motor pretty far it hits my steering knuckles. I'm having problems with the boat in rough water, can't seem to get the nose up enough to keep from stuffing it. Also it rides pretty rough.
Will it help me to put a 10" jackplate on so I can lower my motor more in rough conditions and keep clear of my steering knuckles? This boat is spooking me in the rough stuff and have got to get something figured out.
I have owned a bass boat since 1984 and am on my second Charger so I know how to run in rough water and have plenty of seat time in a boat. I feel like something would help, just not sure what.

    Re: Set up Help (Stompy)

Hey stompy,i am on my 3rd charger a 170, 195,and a 595 now.I have never had a problem with a rough ride. Now with that being said the 595 is a world of difference between the 170 and 195 even though the 195 is a very good rough water boat it does not compare to the 595. Now to your problem ,I would try a better prop first if your running a tempest or trophy they are not the best out there ,maybe a bravo1 4 blade or a very good lifting 3 blade like a turbo lightning Its got a lot of cup built into it to hold the bow up (when trimed up and holds the bow down when your cutting through the rough stuff). The bravo has been the best all around prop when worked by mark croxton. Its not the fastest on top end but does have a very good hole shot and decent top end with a lot of bow holding. If the prop swap does not help then i would try 2 " spacers and see if things change. If it was me I would try a turbo lightning in a 24 or 25 pitch and i think you will be supprised at the ride change.just remember the lightnings have to be new and unworked as they have a very unique blade design and cannot be reproduced. Your prop shaft should be around 3" below the pad maybe a 1/4 up or down from there.

STOMPY- (John) I did not look close enough to see your answers to finding out the jack plate was mounted wrong by the dealer until I saw you answered me direct & not here.

I am glad you figured out the dealer rigged your boat wrong & now it is fixed. I will let you know how the fury works on my 396 when it warms a little.
