Wondering what years interchange with a 1990 GT175 lower unit?
Also, any leads on finding one would be appreciated.
Thanks

Maybe I better answer Von's question with a little more clarity. If we are using internals from an actual '90 175, then we must use a housing from '84-'91. This will allow us to use the long propshaft and your long 4-bolt rear bearing carrier. If this is not the original case, you could possibly have one of the Pre-84 shorties, or a post '91 with a 2-bolt carrier, it get's confusing in a hurry. Knowing how to identify what you now have is the key. Hope this helps some!![]()

Todd, don't you have some wires you can cross somewhere?![]()

Gearcaseman,
Thanks for the help. The internals are from the actual motor, a 90 GT 175.
Any idea on where to find a case?
Thanks
just for my good customers ...LOL
Von, the first place is to try the dealers in your area, be sure they can identify an '84-'91. Also, look closely just inside the case where the bearing carrier seats at the back for indentation, this will be from the 12 O'clock to the 6 O'clock positions. It will look like someone has hammered the carrier into the case, leaving a deep gouge, this is not good! Check all threaded holes, look at the front of the bullet for flat spots and check the retaining ring grooves for smoothness. These checks will help you find a pretty good housing. Call me if you need my help, I have a few laying around,
