196 question

I have a new to me 2003, 196 dc elite with a 200 opitmax, 25 tempest plus and 10" jackplate. Wondering what kind of performance I can expect from it? This site seems to have alot of info, good advice and helpful info. Looking forward to your comments and advice. Thanks in advance, Bruce.

I had an '03 with an Evinrude HO. Best I got was 68.4 mph but I also never REALLY tried to get it dialed in perfectly, with jackplate height. The guy I sold it to, called me after the fact and said he got it to 70.X. Bass & Walleye Boats magazine hit 70.5 in their testing with the Evinrude HO. With the small block 2.5L engines, 61-63 is more common.

67 by myself with full tackle, 1/4 tank of gas and livewells empty. I have a 200 opti with 24 fury. 63-64 with 2 guys and full load

I just bought a 196 this weekend as well. Welcome the the family.

Mine does 61-63 loaded with two people, 1/2 tank of gas and 1/2 a tackle store in the forward compartments. Fill the livewell up and it drops to 58-60.

I'm currently running a 2.5L EFI, 8" jackplate, trim extenders, and a 25P Tempest + at 4" below pad. Any higher and I loose bite real quick. (I bet it has something to do with the tackle store up front. Lol)

I have a 2.6 200 yamaha w/ ph 2 kit and I only get mid 60's empty and low 60's loaded. You will love the way it rides and fishes.
