    The hook

    Hi everyone!
Has anyone on this site with knowledge of elite 200 know of either takeing off the hook on the hull or reducing it.My boat is an 07 and has never been able to consistentley exceed 67 to 68 mph.I run a 225 pro xs 10 inch plate at 3.25 5400 rpms max.26 tempest.I keep hearing about the 200 having a bad hook in the hull wonder if mine is one?can't seem to get the rooster tail down.

I have the same boat and was having the same problems u are having. Has your tempest been worked by anyone? If not that is a must. My boat was running 67.8 max with stock 26 turning 5600. I got a 26 tempest balanced and blueprinted by mark and now turning the same rpms but running 73 plus now. My motor likes to run deeper than other champs. About 4.5 under pad. I tried 6 other props with no success.

    Re: The hook (R Warner)

Thanks for the reply.had this boat since new have started down at 4.5 and after posting to Todd he suggested coming up and starting at 3.75 I have been up to 3" but was loosing water pressure seems no matter where I go if I go full trim I can't get the rooster tail down if I trim down I lose what speed I have .I did contact mark but he didn't want to do anything until I got the rpm thing figured out .After owning the boat this long I keep coming back to the hook.the dealer is absolutely no use.I was thinking maybe the hook is the source of the rpm problem which could be the source of the speed problem?I was feeling like I am dragging that lip around not sure if I am making any since, probably over thinking it.

Call the glass shop at C&O Marine they did a procedure to quite a few 07 200's. They can get you in touch with the right folks to talk to about this.

There weren't very many of them made with the hook in the hull. Only the early 07's. Somebody will be along to tell u who to get ahold of to see if yours was one of the early ones

    Re: The hook (btsmbass)

I'm in ca. We have a shop I have used called smooth as glass does a lot of performance boats.Jeff wants $1700 to remove the hook but I was hopping to get some response from some one who has had it removed or altered.I have also heard that champion has done some of this on warranty, but that sounds like a pipe dream.I was also told by the glass shop that my boat would also turn into more of a drivers boat,

    Re: The hook (RWilliams)

Was told the "hook" takes about 2 MPH out of the boats top end. If thats true:
Is $1,700 worth 2MPH in speed? Up to you but I dont think so.

You can check with Scott Riggin at the factory. They may remove it for you, but will probably want to do it there. The reason for the hook in the first place was to make it easier to drive. And I believe the ones that had it removed are faster.

    Re: The hook (Tx Champ)

My tourny partner was running similar speeds with his 2007 200/225 Pro XS for the first 2 1/2 years he had it. 69 light, 67.X loaded down with the 26 Tempest. We won a Fury in a tounrnament on put it on (25 pitch). Speed immediatley jumped to 70+ loaded. We raised the jackplate a touch and it jumped to 71 with gear and I had it to 72.1 with just me in it. I was absootuly shocked as I am not a huge believer in marketing hype, usually. I would give the Fury and a jackplate twesk a good go-round before I considered the fiberglass work.

    Re: The hook (RWilliams)

Totally agree with Steve! Only the very earliest 200s had a slight hook and it did help regarding chine-walk. Remove the hook and you should notice that you need to drive rather than "going along for the ride"...

Most did not report a great loss in speed, tho some did, but I definitely would, as suggested, try different props before doing any glass work.

What is your HIN? That can help determine what month your boat was built in..

    And welcome!!!!!!

    Re: The hook (Tx Champ)

My fiber glass man said it could give 6 or 7 mph more but would take my tame champ. And turn it into a drivers boat.

    Re: The hook (RWilliams)

Built in TN in August of 06 and is an 07 model. Should not be one with a hook. Time to play with props, etc..
    .
I am told there was a hook for a few months...was not aware of that...but most were removed under warranty.

    Keep us posted!

You are not even close to getting in the power producing RPM range. Ideal for the 225 Pro XS is 5950. Sounds like you might need to try a smaller prop.

I am going through the same exact issues right now. Still Experimenting.

    Re: The hook (RWilliams)

Has your glass shop seen the boat? And do you trust them to be honest with you about wether the boat actually has excessive hook in it? Have you put a straight edge on the hull to see the hook for yourself?

    Re: The hook (dstacey)

I'm just loving this,I haven,t got this much help from my champion dealer. Thanks Lea for your help.as far as the glass shop he has worked on my boat three times two warranty and one road related but the hook question in all fairness to him was on the phone.I was always looking for the reason for the lack of rpms, all Bobs marine in Stockton ca.where I bought the boat would ever come up with was we don!t know why but the pro xs engine will not rev. To factory specs. So I suspected it mite be hull drag as I have always had way to much rooster tail when flat-out. I have had the jack plate 3" and down to 41/2 seems to be best about31/2 but still not rpms.Maybe I wii go the prop route.By the way the fiber glass shop is 125 miles away kinda hard to just run over there.would some one explain where the hook should be . Thanks
