Champion Boat Guys - Tell me what you can see in these pics

Need some help from some Champion Guys - Heard you all are the best.

Hoping you guys can take a look at these and tell me what you see or know about this boat. Don't know the whole story yet but owner doesnt know the model number (thinks 181, but with a 150??) - says his Mech said its needs new rings on the #5 but runs and can take it out. It is a 1996 model.

Hoping you guys can give me some thoughts on the boat, model, condition, etc.. I would appreciate even any speculation on what you think its worth or anything you want to share.

Thanks in advance for any help!!
    Andy

Need more info to give you an idea of worth. What year model is the boat and motor? My computer won't download all of the pics but I did see what appeared to be quite a bit of oxidation on the top cap and the carpet didn't seem to be in that great of condition either. I love my 181 but I would have the motor checked out by a mechanic before buying.

Not sure why you have a ? after the "thinks 181, but with a 150?" The 181 is rated for up to 150hp.

    What year is it?

It could be sharp, but appears to need some serious buffing/polishing...That topcap looks like it was not cared for....

Re: Champion Boat Guys - Tell me what you can see in these pics (jeepin911)

I would think a 96 181 in that shape would be a $3000 boat at best.

The motor needs some work, so figure $1000-3000 there.

The top cap gel I bet would come back with a wetsand and buff- not too hard to learn how to do from the resto forum, but a lot of work.

    Seats will be $1000

Carpet $300-1000 depending on if you DIY or pay someone..

If you are handy and can spend some extra money, someone needs to save that boat, cause it kind of hurts to see them abused like that one. Just make sure you buy it cheap enough to make it worth your time...

I would not pay $3000 for it. You can get alot better for that money. First off it is 25 years old. It needs way too much work. Maybe $1000 at best. Just remember that visually and mechanically it is not cared for. What kind of trailer problems may be there also. Just my .02 worth.

If it was a sound motor I could see $3000.

    15 years old...

I'm still saying no more than $3k, really 2500-3ish. It is a good restore candidate tho-

But needs a LOT of work. Or just make the motor strong and fish it till it falls apart, looks br damned

Why was it sitting? Owner get sick? It doesn't look like it's been used hard to me as much as it looks like it's sat in the sun and been ignored.

    What's the backstory?

In California that boat would easily fetch $4500-$5000, up to $9000 in good condition. It really depends on the local market where the boat is located.

You're also going to spend some money on electronics, probably new batteries ... $3K is looking to be a high price for it. If you spent another $3K on it, you'd be close to retail on it, IMHO. I think, I'm with mha on this one & may be better to walk away.

Re: Champion Boat Guys - Tell me what you can see in these pics (Tx Champ)

I see a diamond in the rough. But I love my 181 so it's a shame is seems to be so weathered.

I'd love to see it resurrected. Heck I'm not above trying something like that myself and I don't know nuffin!

But like everybody said - it depends on the motor...

Good Luck - let us know what you decide

ps I paid $11K for my 2000 model (in 2009 )very similar but it was in water ready perfect shape and has given me zero problems..

Thanks guys - dont really know any backstory at this point. Had a friend tell me he knew about the a boat for sale and this guy sent me these pics. He was asking 3500 i guess. I have asked a bunch of questions but not gotten any answers back yet.

Appreciate all the discussion. I am not scared of the restore, but just dont want to end up with more in it than what its worth after all the labor and $$.
