How ChampioN should have done it!!!

Both my 1991 Champ 190 and my 1997 Champ 181 had a gap in the glass along the top of the transom where the topcap meets the hull. Some may argue, but I feel that this leads to water intrusion and eventually transom rot/failure. I went to great lengths to dry out the transom and add CPES to the transom of my 181. When I was done with the drying I glassed that gap in, then gelcoated over it. Here is a picture of the final product.

Kind of hard to tell from the sun glare in the pix but good job.

Thanks!! It's an iPhone pic, so not the best. If you check out my thread in the restoration area I explain how the transom area turned out great, but I need to re do the gel in the splash well, I did not apply enough clear. Other than that I am more than happy with the results!! I just hope my dried out transom holds up

    I see what you did..

You layed the glass on the top over the back and then vise versa instead of having that gap. That created a solid substrate instead of two meeting each other and being filled with goo.

I have read that is the right way to do it.

    Here's a little better picture.

Apparently this was not an issue for most owners, but good job for your situation...
