    200 HP on 184

I was looking at an older 184SC model Champ that has had a new 200HP Yamaha engine installed on it. My dads 184DC is only rated on the tag for a 175 which his boat has. I'm looking for my own boat now and this one seems like a good deal. However, what is the downside to a 200 being on a boat only rated for 175? Will my insurance not carry it? Is the boat built strong enough for it? Kind of an odd question but any help would be appreciated from the experts! Matt

Boat will handle it fine. Some insurance companies won't cover it, some will...I know progressive will if yours won't.

Some states have rules against it, some don't (no rule in TX)..

The real down side? Most tournaments won't allow it, so that's your main concern.

I always put 150 decals on it, makes 'em scratch their heads even more...

Thanks Pat! I've been looking for an older 184 because I love the way my dads rides/handles. I ran across this one and thought with a 3.1L yamaha this thing would scream. I don't fish tournaments so that really doesn't matter to me. I just crappie fish Truman lake. Thanks for the help.

    NOW we're talking...
That big yamaha will make that into quite an impressive running setup for sure.

I think Allstate will insure up to 25% over power rating, and I heard it's pretty reasonable.

Haven't bothered to look it up, but I bet it's not much (if any) heavier than my four stroke and my 187 carries it just fine.

My 186 runs a mod 175 that puts out 215 HP at the prop and it runs and handles just fine. You will have a good runner with the 184, good luck hope it works out for you
