1999 187 Prop Test Results and a question

When I bought my (new to me) '99 187 the owner gave me a test sheet that shows some fairly interesting results, as you can see. All tests, except for the last two were at exactly 3.5" below pad (last two lines were at 5.8" higher), trim was the same in all tests except the first two, which was slightly trimmed in at 7/8, the rest of the tests were at 100% trim.

I'm interested in your comments as well as recommendations as I look for a new prop. As I look through the board, it seems everyone is recommending a Tempest. The shop tested one as you can see, but is this the pitch everyone recommends? The prop I've been running this season is the Trophy Plus 24 with two fully open vents and two with the "L" plugs or 1/2" hole. This was the prop that was delivered new with the boat. Also the prop has a few dings in it, which doesn't help I'm sure. Noting serious though. Although the test is from late 2007, the boat has only a couple of hours since then, except for me using and enjoying it this year. I had to truncate some of the test results in order to make it fit on this board, but that data I think is the most important.

Well...I think Ray Charles can see you need to be running the tempest...

Still a subjective results if you don't know what the load is.

And...a proper 24-25 tempest would be the best of that lot, but not tested.

Hard to read, but I suggest you try a 25p Tempest Plus. Your rpms are a tad high with the 23p. Generally, a Trophy should be one pitch lower than the Tempest Plus. Your 24 Trophy sounds right, so the 25 Tempest Plus would be the correct size. I ran a 1999 187 with 150 Opti and 23p Tempest Plus. The 175 hp wants the 25.

    OOps...Pat beat me to it..LOL

    Thank you Pat and Lea!

Sorry for the hard to read chart, this board isn't to chart and spacing friendly. You did, however confirm what I was thinking about the Tempest, it was the pitch I wasn't 100% sure. That problem looks solved, thanks for the rule, Lea.

I don't know what the load was, all I know for sure is it was constant. Also, these tests were in a river, hence the lower "run 2" speeds.

Thanks for posting those numbers. I purdy much run the same rig, but at higher elevations so the 23 T.P. is what I need to run.

Re: 1999 187 Prop Test Results and a question (champ1264)

very nice to know. 96 186 w/2010 175 pro xs. ive only tried a few props. 24 trophy would get me 58 mph at 6100rpm, 24 fury 63 at 5650 and 25 fury 65 at 5400. fury felt like i had a 200 on back. im suprised you did as well with the trophy plus.25 was a major chine walker so i settled for 24 fury
