Factory Warranty work that was done, need opinions

I spoke with the previous owner of the boat that I am about to purchase, he mentioned that there was a warranty claim on the boat. He stated that there is a small brace at the fron t of the boat, about 2 ft down on the bow that came loose, causing some small stress cracks in the area of the brace. The Factory fixed the brace, redid the gel in the area. I can't find any area in the front that has the stress cracks so I am assuming the factory fixed it. My Question is would you guys walk or continue to work the deal. I am getting a great deal on the boat, it is just this now throws a loop in the whole deal. He said (remember this guy no longer owns the boat) that the factory fixed it as good as new.

I would ask for printed proof of a factory repair. If not available I would keep looking.

I wouldn't be terrified of it, the seller was at least honest enough to show you the dirty diaper.

Wouldn't bother me....he was up front and honest and I am assuming the stress cracks are not back. All boats get stress cracks at one time or another that just cosmetic.

Doesn't sound like the seller (who currently owns the boat) told him about the repair..It sounds like he contacted the owner previous to the seller who told him...

As mentioned in an earlier post...if there is no documentation, I would probably walk.....unless it was an aboslute smoking deal....then I would take it to a pro fiberglass guy and pay him for a thorough inspection...

    Re: (Rackman)

That is correct. I am not sure that the current owner knows that the work was even done on the boat. i will find out tonight, I am going to contact the current owner and let him know what is going on. We were going to take the boat to the marina this friday to have the motor gone over, but I am ready to just keep looking.

How long has the current owner had the boat? If he has not had any issues, I would be pretty comfortable that any work was well taken care of!

    Re: (Javelin387)

Do you like the boat? Do you like the price? How do you know that the next boat won't have a patch in the hull that was done by an auto body man?

If you're looking for guarantees, you should probably buy a new boat.

But really, your signature has your answer. Check out the boat and engine the best you can, and if it checks out, go fishing and wave as you pass by......

What year is the boat? How long ago were the repairs made? What kind of use has the boat had since the repair? If the repairs were made awhile ago and the boat shows no problems, then I would not rule the boat out just on the issue you raise. But, of course, have the engine checked out.
