Complicated problem 2008 250 pro xs

While running, my motor will randomly lose some power, just for a second. I can feel it stutter, and regain power. It does the same thing also, when I hit the trim or the adjust the Jackplate. RPM gauge is broken so I'm not sure what the rpms are doing. Boat has been at the mechanic for over a month now, and apparently he can't figure out whats going on. He says Compression is all good, and its not a fuel filter issue. Any ideas I can relay back to him? I'm starting to go crazy without my boat. Thanks

Your battery needs load tested and the charging system needs tested.

Supposedly the battery is fine and the compressor is nearly new.

If pushing a electrical switch, such as the jackplate and trim, effects the operation of the motor, then you have a electrical capacity/charging problem. Get the battery load tested and the charging system checked.

    What battery are you using?

Using a Sears diehard platinum battery. Mechanic changed out some injectors and also changed the boost pump last week and said that didn't change anything.

+2. Injectors and boost pump won't correct a battery capacity or charging problem, but may well be affected by it.

Please see the Announcements at the top of the forum, and provide the required information. Thanks!

    How are your terminals connected?

SHOULD be utilizing this type of terminal:

LOAD test the battery to confirm it's ACTUAL tested capacity (not what the decal states).

Install a pair of the above terminals.

Install ENGINE cables on the stud FIRST, remaining lugs Largest to Smallest, and finish off the connections with a Stainless Locknut (pre-tread nut on a bolt FIRST).

    DO NOT use wing nuts.

THEN see if the problem still exists... be glad to assist further if required.

Thanks for the replies guys. Mechanic did a load test and said the battery was fine. I'm not sure about how the terminals are but it has worked this way for a long time.

Don, I don't know the serial number on the motor and the mechanic is more than an hour from me, so I'll just refrain from posting here any more until i get my boat back.

Or perhaps give him a call and ask him if he can get it for you (may also appear on your insurance documents).

Specific results on the load test would be helpful- and I would DEFINITELY take the recommendations on the above pictured terminals to heart (regardless of how it's done "in the past").
