    Open Water

Someone brought up in an earlier thread about going south a ways to get in some open water. What do you guys think is the closest open water to Rapid City, SD? I like ice fishing, but I'm really itching to "Dunk the Champ".

That's a little farther than I wanted to go, but thanks. My brother lives in Oroville. My Mrs.' health demands that I stay as close to home as I can.

I am itching to go too. I could never drag the Champ through all of the salt on the roads up here though. I haven't fished since September and it's slowly killing me. Only 3 1/2 more months.

Hell I live in the south! The only time I get to fish is when my Trail has their T's. I have one coming up Saturday. The Wx calls for a high of 45*, my azz was thinking about staying home and working on boats and wait until it is at least 50* for a high! But we are in 4th place in our division and I want to try the Dinero worms on the spotted bass here so,,,, I need to try my Dobyns rod anyway.

I feel it too. Roy, come on over. You are only 8 hours from me. If we go another 5 hours south into middle missouri, I am sure we could find some soft water.

    Re: Open Water (Royjulius)

My wife's father passed away last week, and we spent a few days in Carroll, IA, for the funeral. It never reched 20 degrees, and mostly was in the 14-17 degree range. We flew into Omaha, and drove from there, and I never saw anything but ice. We saw snowmobiles on just about every body of water.

I would guess lake of the Ozarks would be it, and after the cold snap we've had in the midwest, it may be turning hard, too. It's been in the 30's here all day, and I'm ready to go to Cancun.

Born and raised in the south. Could you guys explain to me the benifit of living up north if you love to fish? I also know that it is no place like home. Six months out of the year, I would get DTs.

I still fish all year round, I'm just starting to miss being in my boat. I ice fish like crazy, and I've won about the same amount of money at it as I have in my boat. I wouldn't live in a place where I couldn't ice fish....

I'm with you, Larry. I grew up in Port Arthur, and this is as for north as I will ever live. My parents still live in PA. I caught 30-40 bass in the LNVA canal behind their house at Christmas in a couple of days.

I will be fishing tomorrow at Lake Athens, and after 3 days of warming weather (including a predicted high of 70 today and tomorrow) I'm sure the red trap/crank bite will be on.

I will probably drive around more than I need to, just to show off my new hydraulic steering to my friend! In January! I love it!
