I ran into the kid that bought my old 168 James. Other than needing a clear treatment on the cap, it's tip top. He has decided to get him a tournament legal rig.

It has a 220 Excell yamaha, 6" rapid jack, 28" worked chopper prop. I have no idea how fast it'll go, it would always blow out before I could find that number.

Probably be had for 2 grand.

    Re: Mean 16 (vnvjames)

My Buddy has a 156 sitting in his garage that needs a restore. I owned the boat about 20 yrs ago and sold it to him. It was originally bought by another friend who ordered it and drove back to Mtn. Home from Ca. to pick it up. The boat is rated for a 140. I know that is high, but I was told by the guy who had the Champ dealership in Redding that it was one of 4 156's that were built and rated for that. I have no idea if that is true or not,,but it does have the rating plate still attached in the boat. I ran it for several years with the original Evinrude 140 on it and it was a blast to drive. The 140's back then were powerhead rated not propshaft like nowdays,,so it would probably really go with a newre powerhead on it. My Buddy blew it up and local yocal boat mech put a rebuild on it,, something was wrong and it blew right away. Was supposed to have a 12 month warranty on it but the outfit that sold them the rebuild refused to honor it. local guy had it in his shop for a year and finally put a junk yard v-4 on it!! It has been sitting ever since in a garage. It is a long way out here but if it is anything you would be interested in I will ask him how much!!

Old age humbles you. You don't heal as quick as you did when you were a kid.

Truth is, I simply don't freshwater fish any more, at all. If I have an urge, I can walk out my front door and catch all I want in my pond.

I was running it at the river and when I was at the ramp this guy was amazed something so ugly could run so good. Ask me if it was for sale, and what did I want for it, he offered me a number that gave me a net profit on the whole thing and that boys was that.

It's a really fun boat right up to about 77, then it gets pretty wild. Somewhere around 82 the lower unit will blow out, and that completely ends the fun. It needs a nose cone, and probably will find mid 80's without much effort.
