Getting my 181 to ride a little higher in the back when fishing...

I think I remember a thread on this sight that discussed a boat that tends to sit very low in the water in the rear. Mine seems to sit low on the motor end when fishing.... I think I remember someone saying that they put extra floatation in the Jackplate area. I have a solid 6" jack plate, can I install some kind of floatation in the hollow cavity? Is there a product made that does this?

    Thanks for the info....

    See ya, HatfieldHog

I have heard of people doing that. I don't think it would hurt to put a basketball or volleyball back there and air it up to see if it lifts it up much. I would doubt it would bring it up enough to notice but it's worth a try.

how full do you keep your gas tank? I always had mine half or less usually, made a big difference in how the boat sat at rest compared to when it was nearly full.

    Less gas and more doughnuts.
I have heard of the B/ball thing a lot, but have never seen it.

Putting about 280 pounds on the front normally worked well with my old one.

I do usually keep the tank full of gas, that could be a contributing factor.... I think I will try to deflate a rubber basketball, then reinflate it in the jackplate and see it it helps.

I put balls in my setback plate. It raised the rear deck two inches and noticable imporved holeshot. It is not on a Champion but it was the cheapest performance enhancment holeshot wise you can make. The volleyballs filled the void more completly than the baskeballs, I tried basketballs first FYI, and ended up with 2 volleyballs and 2 soccer balls

Mine sits like this with about 1/4 tank. I always thought it looked cool at rest.....
