I was wondering if anyone was running a Merc Tempest Plus on their ETEC 225 HO's, especially on a Ranger Z setup and how it might compare to a OMC Raker or BRP Raker 2.
Thanks,
Rod

We ran some Z boats with the Tempest props and some with the Raker II, both seem to work well.
I'm running the stock 27 Tempest Plus on my rig. I like it alot, however, my blueprinted Raker original is faster.

If the weather is decent tomorrow I will be trying a just installed 27+ on Lake Lanier. 2004 21TRX 04 225HO (recently new powerhead). It smoked the hub in my MAZCO 28hp4 and winds my worked 25/26 Tempest past the wot rec. Right now I'am a happy camper will give first hand info by Sat I'm sure.
Merc props are not infallible either. MY 2004 200 HO burned a trophy hub.
Fastr19 We have a problem I know . If you have been copying my mail I've burned 3 in my 28 Mazco hp4. I need to find it a home. When mine is out of warr. I am going to have it drilled out(waterpassage) seems like that is working for some but one of the gurus says it may already have been , don't know exactly how to find out short of a tear down. Hey, but I'm not sitting on it.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have a original Raker 28 pitch...Who would I see to have it 'blueoprinted"???? What improvements would I see? 1 to2 MPH or more like 5 or 6 MPH???
About what should I expect to pay for a "blueprinted" prop?
Thanks

Joe, sent you an IM. Didn't want to put $$$ in the post on where I sent my prop. It all depends on the prop and how closely it matches your boat today, but you could see anywhere from 2-5 mph. A good B&B will match the prop to your combo, stock props are just that, stock, fit all.

Joe, Mark in the prop section does all this. Here is his price list:

Garfish, I have the 7 year warranty so modification is out of the picture. I have only had it happen once in 3 years so I'm hoping it was a fluke. I have also thrown a blade with a trophy so I'm not real happy with trophies in general.
Have run 26 and 28 Raker II as well as Tempest+ and Trophy+ on my 225 HO ETEC. (others as well) The fastest was the Raker II 28 but Ill handling IMO. The trophy is what I run and is only a tick slower. The Tempest just did not do it for me. They vary alot so you have to try a few......

I can feel your pain. If you would look into that BRP service bulletin on Exhaust & Propeller hub cooling kit it is for E-Techs, I believe 05 and early 06. It is Bulletin #2005-04(S) and the part # is P/N5007020. This came from Mazco, John faxed it to me personally. You probably are entitled to thi upgrade.
you may want to go back to a bass and walley magazine maybe may or june last summer. They ran a bunch of props and the Raker II was the fastest.
on a Z 19 225HO, last december, 65-70 degrees a 25 Tempest ran 69-70 on gps, accelerated ok and was 1 in up on the jack plate.
then ran a 26RakerII and accleration was still ok, but the bow lift was incredible and the speed was 71-72 and 1.5 in up on the jack plate.
The Raker II with the TBX hub solves the hub burning problem.
Knock on wood my early production 28 Raker 2 (with the pressed in hub) has been ok....120hrs on it now. The Raker2 with the TBX hub is slower than the original Raker2. The fastest prop I have found on my rig is a 29 Tempest so far. 78.6 at 5900 or so with the 28 Raker 2, 79.7 at 6000 with the 29 Tempest Plus. Just got one in the mail today so that I can run it, get some numbers, and get it worked over....
Mead I take B&WE and am sure i read the article, but you know John Tiger gets in my craw a little as do used car salesmen and politicians. These tests and shootouts are rarely apples for apples so I look at as entertainment and if I do get something new or enlightening out of it, GREAT. I don't save the issues so I can't refer to it . You know I have learned more in the last month on the BBC Boards, talking to guys just like you and getting the benefit of their experience it is invaluable. Invaluable. I got the new 27 Temp+ on and was going today but didn't because of the winds, but I'm going to let that big dog eat Sat or Sun . And will report. Thanks a bunch.
Let us know how the 27P Tempest works out, I have one order as well to try.
Going out tomorrow, but the lake I am going to is a power plant cooling lake and they don't let you run fast on the lake. But, I would rather get a few more hours on the motor and let it open up a bit before I get numbers for a B&B.

strange the RII with rubber hub is different speed than the TBX since the only difference is the hub design. Blades are exact - and that's FACT.
what is known is that really hot air temps, high 90's, 100's, and humidity suck the life out of man and engine. Since the Raker keeps the motor around 5600-5700r's (best power), in hot temps, you could expect the r's to drop a few hundred, and a corresponding hp loss then with a top speed loss. Add the factor of different fuel loads then it's feasible for the 2 props to show different speeds.
All in all - there is not one propeller that works "best" in all conditions. There is always a compromise. Sometimes a 25 pitch is needed in hot weather to accelerate well and bring the engine into the proper wot power, But in cold temps the engine will overrev and go slower.
In cold weather a 26 pitch prop will be the fastest and pull the r's back into the proper wot power, but in hot weather the power will fall off and the motor under -revs and is slower.
I'm back from the lake and DAAAMNNN. 73.4 first try, turned 5999.1/2 gas , no water in wells light tackle, 6" chop ,winds 10-15. NO CHINE WALK, don't know what that is any more, think because I lowered it another 1/2 to total2 1/2, water pressure is 18 at wot, like to see more. On pad 4sec final on pad rpm 2700, from full throttle. Sweet, it performed flawlessly screamed like a banshee and had recognizable pulling torque from on plane to wot, it would easily have turned a nothe 5-600 rpm, but I just couldn't risk it . I would been well in excess of 75. My driving skill will need to sharpen up . I am now looking for a 28 Raker, Mark
Croxton suggested that, Im a looking, Im a proud poppa.
Raker or Raker II?
Congrads on your new baby...... (engine that is)

I know it all sounds good but you are still over-reving. Get that Tachometer checked out. 5800 max for wot rpm. Anything more the motor does not like and hp begins to drop
To all the Evinrude specialists out there - please confirm.
My tech tells me 5700 is the magic number to shoot for. I told him to find a prop big enough to keep me there...![]()
