Need to make Gas tank cover

I need to custom fabricate a new gas tank cover for my 2003 196, I want to make it as close to stock as possible. I need to know what thickness of aluminum to use and maybe some measurements if possible...

Here is what I am looking to build...

Call R&R in Terrell, TX. I'm sure they made the original cover.

I'd call down to Ranger and see if they have any left over.

196 or 206? The boat in the background is a 206 not a 196. The 196 has been out of production for quite some time but I believe the internal dimensions are the same as a 198.

Call Ranger and see what they can do for you. Ask for Jason Bragg he's been around the Champs since the moved to TN from ARK. He'll know what to do for sure.

If you wind up making your own...I would think that .125 or .15 7074 T6 would do find as long as you made some doubler straps to dissipate the stress in the seat areas. Not sure what it would weigh and I may be a little thick with the material here...I tend to "over engineer" things.
