help mounting new battery charger please

replacing my 2 bank with a 3 bank in a 94' 186 elite. Old holes don't match. I have been cautiously drilling slowly the new holes and notice that I am getting metal shavings under that area. Do I need to be worried about drilling down? Or am I safe to keep going. I thought it would just be fiberglass underneathe.

    Thanks

    Rob

not sure of the tank configuration in your boat, but my battery charger is mounted to a removable (carpeted)plate that gives access to the livewell pump. The access panel is a piece of carpeted reinforced aluminum....

    Peace,

My old Champ did not have a factory charger or any place that looked good to bolt an aftermarket charger.

Hear is what I did. But a square open on the bottom box out of 2x4 and put 4 coats of marine grade sealer.

Sealer and raised was to keep it out of any water, just in case it ever filled up.

    Don,

Thanks for the info. I thought about mounting it there but was not comfortable about that horizontal panels ability to support the weight of a three bank charger, so I decided to keep it on the floor. The panels on the floor must be made of the same material. I just kept drilling slowly and had not problems. (that I know of yet). I think it will be ok though.

    Stogie,

Looks like you did a nice clean job. How did you secure the wood box to the floor?

1st as you can see I used one of the straps with a buckle to make the charger and the base 1 unit.

I did not attach it to the floor as I did not want to drill.

The sheer weight kept it in place and as you can see it fits pretty snug.
