73DV Transducer In-Hull Shoot Thru?

Got a Garmin 73DV with my new to me Nitro Z7, really like the unit but hate not having high speed depth readings. I know I could move the transducer down and maybe get better reading but I'm more interested in putting in-hull in a shoot thru application. Anyone done this? Garmin of course doesn't recommend this but neither does Lowrance with their Elite-X HDI transducer but it has been done with success.

I have a 93sv on the bow and console and added the 73dv on the console just for bottom readings on plane. I installed a traditional sonar transducer (P72) as a shoot through. Garmin told me thet down imaging would not work shooting through the hull.
