He ended up buying a new seat and post but he can't get the old post out.
I cut and pasted a post I submitted to a local AZ fishing site I frequent.
Thanks again for all the initial responses.

Buddy of mine is looking to replace his butt seat with a chair type but he can't get the old post out from the base. The post is called a "snap-on" . You depress a button on the bottom of the post, give it a small twist, and the post should come out. It's a 1998 Champ and the post has never been removed. He WD'd the base area, hammered on it, pipe wrenched it, cursed at it, etc. He might end up cutting an X on the carpet to get to the base screws?
Any ideas?
He's willing to pay someone at this point.
Thanks,
John
Hi all, a buddy is looking to buy a front seat with post for his 1998 181. He has a butt seat now but wants to have the option of using either seat for a given trip. I know all Champ post fittings on the deck are not all the same so he might be buying the post separate. Do you guys know what year seat post will and won't fit for a 1998? I told him I would ask around before he went and bought new. Color is not that important. Let me know if you have one laying around or know a good place to find one. He is in the PHX area.
Thanks,
John
